Looking back on 2022

Line of different types of autumn trees on vibrant green grass against a blue sky

We did a lot together last year. Read on to find out where we planted 2,000 bulbs and what the silliest thing we found in the park was.

Watch the video to find out what we got up to in 2022

In just 5 months since we restarted:

  • 18 of us volunteered over 107 hours to keeping the park beautiful
  • We picked 40+ bags of litter (not counting broken motor bikes, play equipment, traffic cones and commodes) at 4 litter picks
  • We set up a new committee with 4 members
  • We planted 2,000 spring bulbs, some are poking through already
  • We made new friends among our neighbours and with organisations like the Carshalton and Wallington rugby club

Art in the park

We’ve also been invited to take part in Sutton Parks ‘Landscape Artist of the Year’ This is what last year’s was about:

  • 4 Sutton park friends groups collaborated on the competition last year on separate dates throughout the summer
  • Free to enter, with prizes on the day for the overall winners from each park
  • Participants have 3 hours to complete their artwork
  • People of all ages took part, from 3 year olds to pensioners. Next year we will have 3 categories: 3-10 year / 11-16 years / adults
  • The competition was followed by an exhibition and award evening led by the Mayor where the 3 ‘overall’ winners of the competition received £50 art vouchers.

Weird stuff we found in 2022

  • a hospital commode
  • a million traffic cones
  • many many canisters of nitrous gas
  • a mermaid outfit
  • so many nappies. We don’t know why
  • scooters
  • shoes
  • coconuts
  • an office chair
  • a slide
