Sutton Landscape Artists of the Year 2024

An artist paints Bishopsford House

As we gear up for Sutton Landscape Artist of the Year 2025 this Saturday 13 September, we look back at the amazing art from 2024.

Judges and winners

We had 15 entries across 3 categories: 3-10, 11-16 and adult. Once again, our judges had a very hard time choosing just one winner and one highly commended artwork in each category. Criteria included composition, style and whether the artwork captured the spirit of the park.

Our judges were Jane a watercolour, ink and print artist also known as Why Fox on Instagram. And Linda, the Chair of Bishopsford House Residents Committee who’s lived in Poulter Park for 15 years and judges on ‘spirit of the park’.

3- 10 year old category

The winner of the 3-10 category was Theia Bray with her bold and confident painting of Bishopsford House rooftop. The judges marked this highly for confidence of brushwork and composition. They also appreciated her use of acrylics and imagination adding a starry night sky!

Our runner up was Grahati Madichetty’s lovely pencil drawing of teenagers by the shelter.

Our other young artists were inspired by our fantastic trees and the glorious weather on the day.

11 – 16 year old category

The winner of the 11 – 16 year old category was Shreyansh Madichetty with his pencil drawing of poppies in our wildflower patch. The judges appreciated the bug’s eye perspective Shreyansh chose, making the poppies appear like their own little forest.

Adult category (17+)

The winner in our adult category was Liz Parry, whose pastel picture of the river Wandle charmed the judges. They chose it for Liz’s evident skill and use of materials as well as for the composition and well executed subject.

Highly commended in this category went to Sofia Dias for her painting of one of the most iconic trees in the park.

Lots of people chose to depict Bishopsford House this year, it was great to see a variety of materials and angles. We also enjoyed images of flowers and trees in the park from other adult artists.

Behind the scenes in 2024

Lots goes on behind the scenes to bring you this competition. It’s a real labour of love supported by friends groups all around the borough. We couldn’t have done this alone, we really do work as a team with community lead Dawn and colleagues from Sutton Council.

Thank you to everyone who came to paint, to our judges Jane and Linda and to everyone who helped us on the day (special shout to Ted, Sandra, Stuart and Ed)

We were funded by Sutton Council neighborhood fund.
